Getting started
Mono Keys lives in your menu bar (there's no Dock icon). On first launch it asks for Input Monitoring access — this is how any app can hear key presses. Click Open System Settings, switch on Mono Keys, then start typing. Sounds begin immediately; the app notices the change on its own.
I enabled it but hear no sound
- Check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring and make sure Mono Keys is switched on.
- Click the menu-bar icon and confirm sounds are turned on (or press ⌥⌘K).
- Check the volume slider isn't at zero.
- Make sure the current app isn't in your muted-apps list.
How do I change the sound?
Click the menu-bar icon to switch sounds instantly, or open the main window to browse the full library by category, preview each sound, and set favorites.
Can I use my own sound?
Yes. Open the window, go to Custom Sounds → Import, and choose a short clip (WAV, MP3, M4A or AIFF, up to 5 seconds). It's stored only on your Mac.
Mute in certain apps
In Settings, add any app to the mute list — Mono Keys will automatically go silent whenever that app is in front (handy for calls or games).
Turn everything off quickly
Press ⌥⌘K anywhere to toggle sounds on or off, or use the menu-bar switch.
Does Mono Keys record what I type?
No. It only detects that a key was pressed, never which characters. Nothing is recorded, stored or sent — there's no network connection at all. See the privacy policy.
